Here is a pretty cool article from CNN.com that discusses the idea that if you are happy, a friend of a friend of a friend will be a little happier. I wonder how directly related this could be to things such as facebook and myspace. It mentioned facebook, but with no conclusive results.

nifty info nugget; it reminds of reading something to the effect that if you know someone who knows someone who is gaining weight, you are likely to gain weight (which could be hard to prove given that most Americans are gaining weight).
Yeah I'm guessing that would be a tough one to prove. I've never heard that before though.
I'm going to guess it would work like this:
"A" is happy. A posts this on Facebook. "B" sees this. B's day may have been bad, ok or good. If it is ok or good B shares in A's happiness. If B's day was bad it becomes ok. As long as one person's day is ok, it can pass on to a potential "good" to others.
interesting fact, when it says possibility of being slightly happier, how much happier does that mean
